South Manchester Dance School was established seventy years ago (originally situated on Palatine Road in Northenden) by Josephine Lewis and Dorothy Guise Bsc Hons.
After being bombed during the Second World War the school was relocated to the bespoke studios at 107 Clyde road, Didsbury where it still resides.
Proprietor, Margarita McGaire A.R.A.D. formerly a professional dancer and an examiner for the Royal Academy of Dancing bought the school thirty years ago. In her own words Margarita believes that "Dance gives a confident awareness of ones whole self, discipline is heightened and musical senses are enhanced"
Principal, Denise Cornall A.R.A.D. came to Manchester to dance professionally with Northern Ballet Theatre and returned after performing extensively with London City Ballet to teach for `south Manchester Dance School. Denise also teaches the Elmhurst Ballet School Manchester Associates.
South Manchester Dance School pupils have had theatrical careers as dancers, choreographers and actors. many have become successful teachers and examiners in the world of dance.
South Manchester Dance School provides dance training in Ballet, Tap and Modern. Pupils are prepared for Grade and Vocational examinations with the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. The school promotes a non competetive yet high achieving environment. Social etiquette and appropriate conduct are a principle feature of the training. Examinations, theatrical performances and productions, whilst optional, are considered to be a vital part of the experience.
